چکیده

In some recent work it has been shown how to solve optimal stopping problems approximatively for independent sequences and also for some dependent sequences, when the associated embedded point processes converge to a Poisson process. In this paper we extend these results to the case where the limit is a Poisson cluster process with random or with deterministic cluster. We develop a new method of directly proving convergence of optimal stopping times, stopping curves, and values and to identify the limiting stopping curve by a unique solution of some first order differential equation. In the random cluster case one has to combine the optimal stopping curve of the underlying hidden Poisson process with a statistical prediction procedure for the maximal point in the cluster. We study in detail some finite and infinite moving average processes.

Approximation of optimal stopping problems

We consider optimal stopping of independent sequences. Assuming that the corresponding imbedded planar point processes converge to a Poisson process we introduce some additional conditions which allow to approximate the optimal stopping problem of the discrete time sequence by the optimal stopping of the limiting Poisson process. The optimal stopping of the involved Poisson processes is reduced...

Optimal multiple stopping with sum-payoff

We consider the optimal stopping of independent, discrete time sequences X1, . . . , Xn where m stops are allowed. The payoff is the sum of the stopped values. Under the assumption of convergence of related imbedded point processes to a Poisson process in the plane we derive approximatively optimal stopping times and stopping values. The solutions are obtained via a system of m differential equ...

Optimal stopping of Hunt and Lévy processes

The optimal stopping problem for a Hunt processes on R is considered via the representation theory of excessive functions. In particular, we focus on in nite horizon (or perpetual) problems with one-sided structure, that is, there exists a point x∗ such that the stopping region is of the form [x∗,+∞). Corresponding results for two-sided problems are also indicated. The main result is a spectral...

Approximative solutions of best choice problems

We consider the full information best choice problem from a sequence X1, . . . , Xn of independent random variables. Under the basic assumption of convergence of the corresponding imbedded point processes in the plane to a Poisson process we establish that the optimal choice problem can be approximated by the optimal choice problem in the limiting Poisson process. This allows to derive approxim...

Contributions to the Theory of Optimal Stopping for One – Dimensional Diffusions

Contributions to the Theory of Optimal Stopping for One–Dimensional Diffusions Savas Dayanik Advisor: Ioannis Karatzas We give a new characterization of excessive functions with respect to arbitrary one–dimensional regular diffusion processes, using the notion of concavity. We show that excessive functions are essentially concave functions, in some generalized sense, and vice–versa. This, in tu...
